AWARDS BANQUET & KEYNOTE ADDRESS by Andy Woodruff, Web Cartographer - 'Expressive Cartography with Code'
Expressive Cartography with Code
During the ascent and proliferation of web mapping over the last decade or so, many professional cartographers worried that easy, automated mapping was leading to a decline in good cartographic design—that amateur mappers could too easily produce bad maps, and that code-based mapping lacked the essential human touch of good design. But code has caught up! A tour of modern, code-driven cartography shows that code isn’t the death of cartographic design, but rather can be wielded as a powerful design tool, and enables expressive cartography matching or exceeding the craft as we knew it.
